Showing support for 2016 Flagship Games

23 February 2016

United players are showing their support for the 2016 Flagship Games.

The Blades, along Sheffield Wednesday, have shown their support for Sport Relief's 2016 campaign, after Sheffield was selected as one of six cities across the UK to host a Sainsbury's Sport Relief Flagship Games.

The Flagship Games will take place on Sunday 20th March, in Sheffield City Centre and the surrounding area. Participants will be encouraged to run, walk, swim or cycle by signing up for the Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile, the Sainsbury's Sport Relief Swimathon and the Sainsbury's Sport Relief Cycle. The money raised will help disadvantaged people living incredibly tough lives across the UK and the world's poorest communities.

Billy Sharp commented: "Everyone can get involved no matter how sporty you are, so bring your friends and family and sign up to walk, run, swim or cycle. You won't just be doing yourself proud, you'll be doing the whole of Sheffield proud as the money you raise will help to change people's lives right here in Yorkshire.

"Let's get as many people as possible signed up for this year's event and make sure the Sheffield Flagship Games is the biggest and best in the UK!"

The cycle route winds around the Winter Gardens, Peace Gardens and Millennium Square, while the Mile departs at Barker's Pool and heads to the west of the City. Sheffield's Swimathon will, of course, be staged at the famous Ponds Forge.

The event village will host plenty of exciting activity throughout the day, with opportunities to try a range of sports from local clubs. The day will also be full of musical entertainment to give participants and spectators something to watch and enjoy after the Mile, Cycle and Swimathon.
