Nigel Adkins says the players are aware the time has come for them to stand up and be counted as the Blades look to mount a concerted push for a top six finish.
With 15 games remaining, the next of which sees Port Vale the visitors to Bramall Lane on Saturday, Adkins insists everyone connected with the Club must continue with the common goal as United look to win promotion through the play-offs.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, the Gaffer remarked: "Tuesday night was disappointing and frustrating and the fans voiced their opinions at full-time, rightly so.
"But we are still in the race with a third of the season remaining and we must be positive. The players understand, the next game is the one we can influence and that comes at the weekend.
"Port Vale will provide us with another challenge, but we have to get on the front foot and play with a real belief. We have to give our supporters something to shout about and if we do I am sure they will back the team throughout the game."
Adkins added: "We aren't where we want to be, we aren't going to hide away from that, we can't.
"But we aren't going to write the season off either, we are determined to make the play-offs, the top two have gone now, but we have to believe and we will fight until the end to make sure we give ourselves a chance to win promotion this season.
"It is where we are after the 46th game of the season that will count the most."
