A brace from Tyler Smith paved the way for the Blades to win a seventh consecutive league game, as Barnsley were comfortably beaten at Oakwell Academy on Saturday.
United were quickly out of the blocks and within the opening five minutes both Ford and Hallam had stung the palms of the home goalkeeper. Then in the 10th minute, the visitors appeared to have forced the ball over the line, as Brown headed towards goal at the back post, but a crowded penalty made it difficult for the officials to be sure and they waved play on.
At the other end, Barnsley had a chance of their own after United lost the ball in midfield, but Eastwood was on hand to save well.
However, in the 20th minute, the Blades took a deserved lead and unsurprisingly, after Gordon had won the ball high up field; it was HALLAM who slotted home for his 17th of the season.
Before the break, Ford came close to doubling United's lead, before the Tykes squandered a golden opportunity to restore parity as the onrushing striker headed over with the goal at his mercy.
In the opening exchanges of the second period, Crofts had a shot on target, whilst Hallam, Cummings and then substitute Kimarni Smith all had chances to score, but none of them were taken.
Chances continued to fall the way of the visitors though and the pressure finally counted with 18 minutes remaining as Hallam went from scorer to provider, claiming the assist as T. SMITH finished clinically.
And United made sure of the victory with a swift counter attack in the final minutes, with Kimarni Smith teeing up namesake T. SMITH to cap off another thoroughly deserved win.
