Gaffer on JPT test

1 September 2015

Nigel Adkins says the Blades want to progress in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, but insists Tuesday's tie at Hartlepool United will give him a chance to rotate his squad again.

Speaking after Saturday's impressive victory over Swindon Town at the County Ground, United's fourth on the spin in Sky Bet League One, Adkins switched his focus to the midweek clash in the north-east.

Looking ahead he remarked: "Hartlepool have enjoyed a great start to the new season after Ronnie Moore did a great job in keeping them in the league last term.

"Everyone knows Victoria Park is always a difficult place to go to and we are under no illusions it will be a tough tie."

On his squad and his ambitions to win the first round tie, the Gaffer added: "It is a good game for us and one where the likes of Long, Alcock, McGahey, Flynn and Kennedy can all go out and get some minutes under their belts, but at the same time it is a game we would like to win to progress in the competition.

"But I have always said I would make changes for cup games and at this stage of the season it is important everyone has that match sharpness."
