Blades 'Class of '90' reunite for 25 years celebration

30 October 2015

The players and manager of United's promotion clinching side of 1990 celebrated the 25th anniversary of their remarkable achievement with a special dinner at Bramall Lane.

The event took place in the Platinum Suite where fans and squad members looked back on the success of Bassett's Boys in a season that the Blades returned to the elite of English football for the first time in 14 years.

Club legends such as Brian Deane, Tony Agana, Simon Tracey, Ian Bryson and many more were all present at the event which saw an auction of United's best ever away shirt, the lime green shirt - as chosen at the 125th anniversary celebration. It was signed by members of the squad and the manager Bassett.

Winchester Car Sales, sponsors of United's new dug out area featuring specially designed office style seats for the coaching staff and players, provided a replica chair for auction.

The new partnership with the local car dealership, based on Herries Road South, has seen a new dugout and specially-designed seats installed at Bramall Lane.

Sheffield United's 5-2 away victory at Leicester City's Filbert Street ground in front of thousands of ecstatic fans sealed Dave Bassett's second promotion with the Club. Dave couldn't wait to go down memory lane with the players and supporters. He said: "It was a truly remarkable period in the history of the Blades.

"It was fabulous to re-live the events of that season with the boys and, of course, the supporters many of whom were in fancy dress at the away end."

Organisers Redtooth tracked down some of the fans that went to Leicester and were captured on film by the six-part BBC2 documentary "United" during a pitch invasion that featured in the final episode.

Martin Green, Managing Director of Redtooth and United Vice President, said: "Following the 125th anniversary celebration success at Ponds Forge, it was fantastic to celebrate the achievements of one of our best squads in recent memory."

The Former Players' Association, which is hoping to arrange future events, will benefit from the celebration.
