Gaffer on Southend test

13 November 2015

Nigel Adkins expects Southend United to provide 'competitive' opposition at Bramall Lane on Saturday.

But the Blades boss is focusing on making sure his side get things right at both ends of the field, as United themselves look for a sixth win from the last seven home fixtures in all competitions.

Looking ahead to the Sky Bet League One encounter, Adkins remarked: "We are positive in our outlook. We are back at Bramall Lane and we will be ready for a very competitive game against Southend.

"It will be a tough one, but we will have to be resolute and strong, whilst continuing to create chances. What we have to be is more ruthless in both penalty areas.

"We need to improve at both ends of the field, although we are pleased to have kept clean sheets in the last two games. Clean sheets are important if we are to be successful, but at the other end we have got to stick the ball into the back of the net."

On Saturday's visitors, the Gaffer added: "Phil Brown has done a great job at Roots Hall.

"They play effective football. If we give them time they will pass the ball, but we expect a lot of balls coming into our box at the weekend and we have to stand up to that challenge."
