While Bramall Lane was preparing to turn pink in aid of Breast Cancer Care for United's fixture against Millwall last month, Sheffield United fan David Pearson and girlfriend Nicola Littlebury began making preparations of their own - after getting engaged on the pitch at Bramall Lane.
The 32-year-old, from Chatham in Kent, had been making behind-the-scenes plans with the Club ahead of the game, and, after fooling then girlfriend Nicola into thinking the couple were attending a stadium tour before the game, led her out into the centre circle and asked her to marry him.
She duly obliged by saying yes, and the couple, who travelled up from Kent for the game are due to marry in April next year.
David, an accountant, said: "It was a unique experience. Asking someone to marry you is unique in itself, but being privileged enough to be able to do it on the Bramall Lane pitch was something else.
"I can't quite believe it to be honest. It was tricky to organise without Nicola finding out, and I thought about putting something on the big screen at half time.
"But in the end, with the help of Sheffield United I managed to arrange for Nicola to come onto the pitch with me in the morning. Thankfully she said yes, and it was the most memorable moments of my life!
"We would like to thank all at Sheffield United for allowing this opportunity. It shows how much the Club values its fans and wants to make people's dreams come true."
Nicola, from London, added: "It was an experience both of us will never forget.
"The whole day was a blur - and as a massive football fan I can't think of any better place to get engaged than on the pitch at Bramall Lane."
Dave McCarthy, who is Operations Director at Sheffield United, said: "It gave me great pleasure to help David get engaged to the love of his life.
"It was a bit of a whirlwind day, what with all the preparations for 'Turn the Lane Pink Day' going on in the background, but thankfully we managed to get David and Nicola on the pitch together for what will always be a special moment.
"I'd like to take this opportunity to say congratulations and wish them a happy marriage."
