Girls' Centre of Excellence trials

18 May 2015

Sheffield United Girls' Centre of Excellence will again be holding trials for aspiring female footballers in June, subject to the award of an FA Operating Licence.

The elite coaching centre, based at our Redtooth Academy in Shirecliffe, offers high level coaching to female players aged 7 to 17, and is fully supported by the Football Association. The Girls' Centre of Excellence (GCOE) operates teams from U11s to U17s, and also has a development squad for U9s.

The girls play a wide range of fixtures throughout the season against other GCOEs such as Leeds United, Manchester United, Derby County and Liverpool.

The objective of the GCOE is to give talented girls from the region the opportunity to develop their football skills, with the aim of producing female players capable of playing at the highest level domestically and internationally in the rapidly advancing girls' and women's game.

Current FA Women's Super League clubs such as Notts County, Chelsea and Doncaster Rovers Belles are benefiting from players produced by Sheffield United.

The Sheffield United GCOE has again this season seen its players recognised at international level with players at U15s and U17s being regularly selected for the England squads, and some also attending regional Elite Performance Camps - the intermediate step before a full international training camp.
