Nigel Clough says his trio of Scottish midfielders are all nearing a return to full fitness.
Stefan Scougall continues to progress well from a knee problem and is expected to return by the end of the month, whilst Ryan Flynn (hamstring) and Jason Holt (ankle) are closer to a reappearance and the pair have a chance of making the trip to Scunthorpe on Saturday.
Commenting on having to cope without the Scots and looking forward to their impending returns, the Gaffer remarked: "Stefan is doing very well, he is outside running and hopefully we'll soon be in a position to up his workload and allow him to start light training.
"From there we hope we won't be too far away and he gives us that direct running from the middle of the park that we have missed in recent weeks."
On United's number 7, Clough continued: "It was good news about Ryan, we feared the worse when he was limping around towards the end of the Peterborough game, but thankfully he didn't tear his hamstring, it was more of a cramping issue and muscular strain.
"We will give him all week to try and prove his fitness for the weekend, but if that comes a bit too soon, then Tuesday's game at Walsall is a realistic target."
Concluding on Holt, the Blades boss added: "Jason has struggled in recent weeks to shake off a niggling ankle problem, but he seems to be getting over it now and again hopefully he will be in contention for Scunthorpe.
"We are mindful not to risk these lads when they aren't quite right, but we are also aware that we need a result on Saturday."
