Nigel Clough is urging his team to make a quick start and get on the front foot from the off in Saturday's clash with Port Vale.
The game against Robert Page's Valiants is the first of three home matches in a week for United, but the Gaffer is refusing to look beyond the weekend's encounter.
He remarked: "On the back of two defeats it is difficult to predict whether Port Vale will come and be defensive minded or come and have a go. What we do know is the like of Rob (Page) and Michael (Brown) know this place inside out.
"But we have to focus on what we are going to do, we told the players on Friday morning we need to be positive, put them on the back foot from the first minute and an early goal would obviously settle everyone down.
"As we keep saying, especially at home, we can't afford to give them a foothold in the game or worse still fall behind.
"We have to get the crowd behind us and look to push on, we have three home games on the bounce, a chance to put some points on the board, but from our point of view it is very much one game at a time.
"We can't be looking ahead to Scunthorpe and Crewe because when you do so you often come unstuck in the game at the forefront of your mind."
