Diego De Girolamo has been recalled from his loan spell at York City, but will be moving back out of Bramall Lane on a temporary basis.
The Italian youth international has had two spells with the Minstermen this season, the last of which saw De Girolamo feature four times for City having rejoined towards the end of February.
His final appearance for Russ Wilcox's side came in Tuesday's 1-0 home loss to promotion-chasing Bury.
Now, the 19-year-old has joined fellow Sky Bet League Two outfit Northampton Town, on-loan for the rest of the season as he looks to get some regular first-team football at Sixfields.
The Cobblers are managed by former Blade Chris Wilder.
