Young Blades enjoy German experience

10 July 2015

The Blades narrowly missed out on being crowned Borde Cup winners in Germany earlier this month.

Players born in 2001 represented United, who over won a similar tournament in Norway in April, were only denied this time by goal difference, with FC Union Berlin claiming the trophy.

United's challenge began with a 1-0 over FC Lokomotive Leipzig, before the Blades and hosts MSV Borde played out a goalless draw.

A 3-1 win over Werder Bremen followed, before United could only draw 2-2 against eventual winners Berlin in a game they needed to win to pip their Germany counterparts to the honours.

In addition to the football, which was described as a 'good experience' by Coach John Pemberton jnr, the youngsters also enjoyed a tour of Berlin, visiting the TV Tower and Brandenburg Gate, before walking through Alexanderplatz.

Congratulations to all the youngsters involved, all of whom represented the Blades with pride throughout the trip.
