Stefan Scougall says pre-season training gets no easier, but will have 'lasting benefits' to the players in the months ahead.
United's first-team squad begin their second full week of training on Monday and Scougall admits it has been a hard slog to date, something he thinks will continue at Shirecliffe over the coming days.
The Scotsman remarked: "It is all about fitness work, it perhaps looks easier than what it is, but you are on the go all the time and it is completely different from training during the season.
"But everyone knows it is a short term thing with lasting benefits for the long, grinding season ahead."
Scougall says the soaring summer temperatures are enjoyable, but not when you are working morning and afternoon on the training pitch!
He added: "Everyone loves the sunshine, but it was roasting last week and made life even tougher at times, during pre-season we prefer it to be cloudy and overcast but it never happens.
"Your main fitness comes from playing games though, so we are looking forward to getting through the hardwork ready for when the games begin later in the month."
