Gaffer on busy month ahead

14 January 2015

Nigel Clough says he will need all his squad to play their part during this hectic month still ahead of the Blades.

United have begun 2015 with two deserved victories over QPR and most recently Preston North End, but speaking ahead of Saturday's trip to another promotion rival in the shape of the MK Dons,

Clough insists the majority of the players available to him will be utilised in the weeks ahead, with three cup ties following the match at stadium:mk.

The Gaffer said: "We are working out behind the scenes the best way to get the right balance between the league games and the cup ties, in particular the next two fixtures.

"We have some lads who are cup tied for the Capital One Cup but not the FA Cup, whilst others are cup-tied for both. It will also be a boost to have Chris Basham available again after the weekend."

Clough stressed the importance of the league fixture, but reaffirmed his desire to succeed in all competitions, adding:

"The remaining three league games this month are as important if not more so than the cup ties, so we have to try and manage the squad the best we can, to get fresh legs out there where possible, to give us the best chance of continuing to fight on three fronts.

"Whatever happens in the cup it will still be all to play for in the league and hopefully we'll finish the month closer to the top two than we started and subsequently cement our position in the top six."
