Blades boss Nigel Clough believes young striker Diego De Girolamo will sign a new contract with the Club in the near future.
Speaking ahead of Saturday's clash with Preston North End at Bramall Lane, the Gaffer has revealed talks are continuing with the Italian youth international, who for the moment, has returned from his loan stint with York City.
Clough said: "We are in discussions to extend Diego's contract and it is something we are keen to do.
"He has come back from York whilst we try and tie it up and with him not being cup-tied, it won't do him any harm being around the place for the next week or two.
"We'll have him around the first-team, see if he can feature, then once his contract is sorted, we will look at getting him back out on-loan to gain some more experience.
"He has done very well at York City and we are happy for him to rejoin them and work under Russ Wilcox."
Meanwhile, Clough says goalkeeper George Long, who spent much of the first-half of the season at Oxford United, is likely to move back out on a temporary basis.
He added: "George is available for loan and we have had one or two calls for him. He played for the U21s in the week and kept a clean sheet, but like with George (Willis) at Alfreton Town, we need him to be playing regular first-team football."
