Nigel Clough believes a positive result against Sky Bet League One leaders Bristol City at Ashton Gate on Saturday will bring United right back into contention for an automatic promotion berth.
But the Blades boss is under no illusions about the challenge they will face against Steve Cotterill's side, who have lost just once at home all season in the league, with City having won six of their last seven fixtures.
Clough though isn't surprised to see the Robins at the top of the table, with the Gaffer explaining why.
He remarked: "Bristol City are top of the pile for a reason, they have been the best team in the division to this point and the most consistent.
"We felt they should have been the favourites at the start of the season, prior to the opening day fixture at Bramall Lane.
"They were active last summer and got the vast majority of the main targets in, they have also been fortunate with injuries, but they are still there on merit.
"They have managed to add to the group at key times and the lad Smith from Fulham, who we enquired about before he went there, has been in tremendous form recently.
"But despite having Smith and the likes of Emmanuel-Thomas and Flint, City are much better than just been a physical side, they have several good options in midfield and have got goals throughout their team.
"But we are moving in the right direction, we are building our squad whilst maintaining a promotion push and a good result at the weekend would make a few teams above us start looking over their shoulders."
