The Community Foundation's Futsal scholars have enjoyed a promising start to the new campaign, as they compete in the FLT National Futsal League.
Our Futsal teams have enjoyed wins against Scunthorpe United, Grimsby Town, Blackburn Rovers and Steel City rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
Coach Chris Marshall remarked: "It has been a brilliant start to the new season and a real challenge as new scholars face teams who have been playing futsal for over a year already.
"The approach to training and fixtures has been impeccable and the scholars have been rewarded with a number of notable results."
In September, the programme welcomed up to 40 new first-year students to join the current scholars moving into their second
or even third year, with some studying at degree level with the Foundation.
The programme has also seen an expansion in the playing opportunities with a team being entered into the FA Futsal fives league in Sheffield. The team, comprising of graduates and current scholars have won 3 out of 5 games beating the likes of Sheffield Futsal Club and The University of Sheffield.
Programme leader Chris Bailey commented: "It is great to have additional playing opportunities outside the league. Extended game time against adult opposition will help with the technical and tactical development of our scholars. The FA Futsal Fives league is a great way for graduates to remain involved with the Club whilst studying at University."
The Futsal scholars play their league fixtures at the International Futsal Arena in Leeds. However, reaching the final of the Soccer AM Futsal Cup and qualifying for the National finals has seen the scholars play at St Georges Park and the Copper Box Arena in London's Olympic Park.
The action continues each week with fixtures, results and league tables being updated at fltfutsal.co.uk
Forthcoming fixtures see United play against Grimsby, Huddersfield, Middlesbrough, Carlisle and Rotherham United.
If you would like to be a part of the Futsal and Education Scholarship, our Open Event takes place on Saturday 5th December 2pm-4pm at the Steel Phalt Academy. Applicants do not have to have any Futsal experience but must meet the minimum entry requirements for one of the academic programmes.
