Leading local businessman backs male cancer charity

8 December 2015

A team of Sheffield United Club staff, together with Club sponsor Westfield Health, put down their razors to raise more than £100 by growing moustaches in support of Movember.

'Team Sheffield United FC', consisting of William, Louis, Adam and Will from our Club Superstore, as well as Liam from our commercial department, grew and groomed moustaches throughout November for the Movember Foundation, raising a total of £130.

Westfield Health, one of the Blades' main sponsors, joined the Club in supporting the Movember cause, with chairman Graham Moore growing an impressive moustache for the first time ever in aid of the Foundation, raising £2,000.

Prior to embarking on their challenge to raise money and awareness, the Blades boys received neat trims from Tony, owner of Istanbul Barbers on London Road - which is where the 'winner', Adam Wragg of the Superstore, will be treated to the prize of a face pamper session for growing the best moustache on the team.

The Movember Foundation, which has been running since 2003, aims to combat illnesses such as prostate cancer and testicular cancer, as well as tackling poor mental health and general inactivity.

More than £400m has been raised in the 12 years since the start of the Movember Foundation. Over 1,000 breakthroughs in men's health have been funded across 21 countries.

Team Sheffield United's 'winner', Adam, said: "It was quite something to be a part of Movember - it's a unique way to raise cash for charity. Myself and the team were only too happy to do our bit.

"It's been a long, itchy road but there was the added incentive of having 'the works' down at Istanbul Barbers afterwards, and that, combined with the money and awareness we've raised, made it all worthwhile.

"At Sheffield United, we're always happy to lend our hands to fundraising initiatives, and we're hoping that the exploits of the team here, and Graham Moore at Westfield Health, show what people can do for charity."
