Speaking following Sunday's entertaining 1-1 draw with Hull City at Bramall Lane, Nigel Adkins was pleased to see the Blades end their pre-season fixtures undefeated and admits confidence is high.
Reflecting on the final friendly outing, which saw United dominant the first-half, only for Abel Hernandez to cancel out Jamie Murphy's opener late in the second-half, Adkins remarked:
"We've done well against a team that was in the Premier League last season and we've learnt a lot, just like we did against Newcastle United. That's my 34th pre-season done and dusted now and we are in good shape.
"Nothing surprises you anymore. We could, probably should, have scored more goals than we did, but with the options we have we will score goals this season.
"We were disappointed with the one we conceded but, other than that, we thought we looked strong and disciplined against a very good Championship side."
Thoughts now switch to the seasonal opener at Gillingham on Saturday and the Gaffer says the excitement has been building for a while.
He added: "We're ready to go now. In fact, we've been ready to go for a while.
"There always comes a point when you just want to get going, actually get stuck into the games themselves. To be honest, the lads have probably felt like that since the end of last month."
