"Hull will be looking for a good start in the Championship after relegation from the top-flight, so like every game has been it will be a beneficial fixture for us, likewise it will be for them too.

"But regardless of the result on Sunday, we are in a good position ahead of the start of the season and that is when it really counts."

Adkins revealed he has been pleased with United's attacking play in the friendlies to date and is hoping his players quickly find a high level of consistency at both ends of the field once the competition action gets underway.

He added: "We have scored goals in pre-season and that is pleasing, we have individuals who can score goals from different areas and you can never have too many goalscorers in your squad.

"It is a simple game really, you need to score goals at one end and keep clean sheets at the other and if you can do that regularly then you will win a lot of games, that's our aim."
