Nigel Clough says he is delighted to see young centre-half Terry Kennedy close in on a return to competitive action.
The Barnsley born defender, who featured on a handful of occasions towards the end of last season, suffered a knee injury in the summer that hampered him in pre-season.
But Kennedy has now returned to U21 action and skippered United at Charlton earlier this week, playing just over an hour.
Looking ahead, Clough remarked: "It's great to see Terry back. His attitude is brilliant, absolutely superb and we love working with players like that. We always have.
"I tell you what, if Tel had been out there we wouldn't have conceded that second goal against Leyton Orient because he would have taken man, ball and everything else in the way. Probably half of the stand if he could too!
"That's the desire he's got for this Club and his profession which is great to see. He's ready to do whatever you ask of him and he is certainly a valuable member of the squad."
