Nigel Clough was delighted to see Jose Baxter and Jamal Campbell-Ryce making goalscoring appearances at Hartlepool United in midweek.
Baxter netted in the first-half of JPT second round clash, as he came through 45 minutes unscathed following a hamstring injury, whilst Campbell-Ryce scored a late winner on his first start since mid September after suffering with a calf problem.
Clough believes Baxter is an important player, capable of playing a number of roles, the Gaffer remarked "It will take him another week or so to get back to full match sharpness and replicate some of his best performances from earlier in the season, but to have him back in pleasing.
"Jose shows what we miss when he doesn't play, but it was also important to get a few of the other lads a run out, they needed it and have come through it unscathed.
"Jose offers us great versatility, he is so calm on the ball and can get a goal from anywhere. He can play anywhere across the midfield and also up front, either alone or as part of a two."
Of his more experienced winger, Clough added: "It was a good finish from Jamal and nothing less than he deserved. It was also pleasing to win the game in 90 minutes and not have to go to penalties."
