Crewe 1-2 U21s - report

3 November 2014

United's U21s returned to winning ways with an away success at Crewe on Monday afternoon.

The Blades, who included Louis Reed and trialist Kieran Wallace, deserved the victory, with Crewe only netting a late consolation.

With Nigel Clough in attendance, the Blades took control with the lead on 10 minutes, Jamie McDonagh scoring.

United had to wait until the second half before doubling the lead, Ben Whiteman netting on 72 minutes to curtail any hopes Crewe had of getting back into the game.

The Blades made changes but all Crewe could must was a 90th minute consolation.

Boss Clough said after the game: "It was a good all round performance, a lot of individuals have impressed for the U21s lately. The lads have a good work ethic and the cohesion in their play was evident."

Blades: Willis, Paling, K. Wallace (Scarisbrick 65), Dimaio, Berry, Banton, Hamilton, Whiteman, McDonagh (Cockerline 75), Reed (Calvert-Lewin 72), Coustrain. Subs: Eastwood, Evans.
