Pre-season plans continue

14 May 2014

United's pre-season plans are being prepared behind the scenes at Bramall Lane - it is just the warm-up fixtures that need to be slotted into place.

Talks are continuing with prospective opponents, Nigel Clough has confirmed.

"We are waiting for a couple games to be confirmed and are working around the 125 anniversary game, which we hope to play at the Lane in pre-season," said the Blades chief.

"There are plans in place, we know when we are reporting back for training and where we are going - there are just one or two matches still to be arranged. A few of the teams we are talking to have been involved in the play-offs so they have had more pressing matters at the moment. Of course, we do not want to play teams that are going to be in League One.

"Geographically it is also important we pick the right matches. We don't want supporters to have to travel too far, so we won't be going up to Scotland or down to Devon or Cornwall. The plan is to go over to the north west but again there are one or two things to finalise in terms of fixtures."

Clough and his coaching team's plans will centre around ensuring the players are ready for the Sky Bet League One season opener on Saturday 9th August 2014.
