Skipper is important figure, says boss

21 March 2014

Michael Doyle's contribution in United's engine room is not under-estimated by Nigel Clough.

Since arriving in October, boss Clough has continually praised skipper Doyle's tireless work in the Blades midfield.

"Michael has been as important as anyone in the current run," said Clough. "The other night he did a great job defensively in protecting the lads at the back, he looks after them but can be a spare man when we get the ball.

"It is not all about defensive duties, because he is better on the ball than people give him credit for. He can be the one who can start a move or two, he is very influential for us."

Doyle has played over 40 times this season and has made 159 appearances since arriving from Coventry in 2011.
