George Long has joined Sky Bet League Two outfit Oxford United in a loan deal that will initially run until the beginning of the January transfer window.
The 20-year-old stopper joins the U's until early 2015, after Blades boss Nigel Clough revealed earlier in the summer that it wouldn't be beneficial for Long to sit on the bench behind current number one Mark Howard.
On the loan agreement, Clough confirmed: "We are delighted George has found a good Club like Oxford to ply his trade until the New Year.
"The lad will only develop further by playing games regularly and it doesn't matter what level we are talking about. He is already a very, very good goalkeeper, but he will improve further by being exposed to different situations.
"George Willis will step up to provide cover for Mark (Howard)."
George, who has been capped by England and worked within the U21s setup as recently as last season, became the youngest ever goalkeeper in United's history to feature for the Club in a league match.
