Clough previews important fixture

31 July 2014

Nigel Clough says Thursday's friendly against Fenerbahçe is another important fixture in United's pre-season schedule.

Ryan Flynn is expected to feature against the Turkish champions, whilst Jamal Campbell-Ryce could return having missed Tuesday's defeat to Huddersfield Town with an ankle problem.

Looking ahead, the Gaffer remarked: "Thursday night will be a special occasion for everyone associated with the Club as we welcome Fenerbahçe to Bramall Lane.

"It could be a cracker. We'll try and juggle the team around and be competitive. But we don't play Champions League-quality sides too often, thankfully!

"It'll be a good experience for the youngsters, and it's all a vital part of their progression."

Clough confirmed James Wallace will again miss out against Fenerbahçe, although he is pleased with the progress the midfielder is making behind the scenes at Shirecliffe.

United's manager added: "James is working really hard with the medical staff and hopefully he will play a small part of the game at York City on Saturday, before stepping it up at Harrogate Town next Tuesday."

* Tickets for tonight's game are still available (£7 adults and £3 concessions) and can be purchased from the Box Office right up until 7.30pm.
