Blades 0-1 Huddersfield - match report

The Blades suffered a narrow defeat to Championship outfit Huddersfield Town in the latest pre-season outing.

Adam Hammill's goal, with 12 minutes to go, separated the teams in front of 4,111 supporters at Bramall Lane

Three inviting crosses from Harris in the opening 15 minutes set the tone for the Blades against the West Yorkshire side. Butler and Basham threw themselves at an early corner and the home side were clearly on top early on.

Butler headed over after the Blades recycled possession from a corner and Murphy almost attached himself to an Alcock cross on 20 minutes. Huddersfield did have their moments - a number of efforts were blocked, including three in one move - and Norwood tried his luck from 40 yards after Howard was forced to rush off his line.

Basham headed at goalkeeper Murphy from Alcock's cross but late in the half Huddersfield looked more of an attacking threat. Firstly, Crooks headed on to the roof of the net from a corner and then Scannell shot over after a neat turn on the edge of the box.

The best chance of the whole half arrived on 40 minutes when Wells stayed onside and found himself free to meet Hammill's cross but Howard was ideally placed to make a reaction save.

Despite no changes at the break, Scougall was replaced soon after, hobbling from the game and replaced by McGinn, and Huddersfield began the half as they finished the last with efforts from Crooks and Hammill.

McNulty and Porter were introduced just before the hour and McGahey and Dimaio followed soon after but Huddersfield remained a force and Dixon smashed a long-ranger just over.

The opening goal arrived on 78 minutes after Hammill and substitute Majewski teamed up inside the box. The latter's shot was kicked off the line by Harris, but HAMMILL was the first to react to poke the ball home from close range.

For the final 10 minutes, boss Clough handed run outs to teenage Academy prospects Khan and Whiteman but the Terriers again looked the more dangerous but a number of late corners failed to double the lead, although Norwood's curler clipped the top of the crossbar.

In injury time McNulty's effort, following a quick free-kick, was blocked and the resulting corner saw a mini game of pinball in the box, but the Blades were unable to penetrate Murphy's goal.
