Villa win earns accolade

10 January 2014

The League Managers Association five-man Performance of the Week panel were in agreement that this week, that the award should go to Sheffield United following the excellent 2-1 away win against Aston Villa in The FA Cup.

The LMA's panel consists of Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry.

United manager Nigel Clough will receive a specially engraved crystal football in a presentation to commemorate the award.

Goals from Ryan Flynn and Jamie Murphy recorded a spectacular victory for the Blades, who were 51 places below Premier League Villa in league standings at the time of kick-off.

After the match, Clough was delighted with the result: "For us and our 6,000 fans who came today, I think you saw how much it meant. It's still a special, special competition."

The presentation to Clough takes place at United's Redtooth Academy training base at Shirecliffe and will be show on Sky's Soccer Saturday programme.
