Head Groundsman Glenn Nortcliffe and his assistant Adam Hoyland received a timely boost for their endeavours this week when the Club received notification from the Football League Playing Surfaces Committee that the Bramall Lane pitch had been ranked as the second best of the season in League One, up to and including the 29th December 2013.
Glenn and Adam work tirelessly on the Bramall Lane turf and for the visiting managers and match officials to place their votes in this way was appreciated by both members of the Blades staff and indeed everyone at the Club.
The Groundstaff are acutely aware that the worst weather of the winter is more than likely ahead of us and are always seeking out initiatives to keep the pitch in the good shape, so as to allows Nigel Clough's team to have the best possible playing surface.
Glenn has this week recommended that the pitch be covered from Friday onwards, so as to protect it from the elements over the weekend. Glenn will supervise a team of specialists who will be covering the whole pitch from mid morning on Friday right up to Sunday morning.
