Gaffer ready for Alex

31 January 2014

Nigel Clough knows the significance of Saturday's clash with Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road.

Going into the weekend Crewe are a point and a place better off than the Blades in the League One table, but it is worth noting United have two games in hand.

Speaking ahead of the Blades departure to Cheshire, the manager remarked: "We have several important matches coming up, but our next two league games are absolutely crucial.

"We face Crewe on Saturday and we know a win lifts us at least one place up the table, so it is certainly going to be a significant week in our season, then next Saturday we host Shrewsbury Town, who are a place below us in the table.

"So if we could get two wins on the bounce it will certainly see us moving in the right direction, on the other hand we saw first hand at Notts County how a defeat can affect the league table.

"Both teams usually like to play good football, but it is fair to say that the weather could be factor."
