Winning mentality

27 February 2014

Nigel Clough is delighted to see a winning mentality and belief within the dressing room.

Speaking after Tuesday's 1-0 win at Colchester United, the Blades' sixth consecutive victory in all competitions, Clough admitted the defeat at Crewe Alexandra last month has acted as a real turning point in his team's fortunes.

On the recent run and the dominance of the performance in Essex, the Gaffer remarked: "It is a lovely feeling to be consistently winning matches and with that comes confidence and belief.

"We controlled the game from start to finish and I can't remember Mark Howard having a shot to save at Colchester. We look solid and teams are having to work very hard in possession to break us down.

"This run of clean sheets and wins comes after the defeat at Crewe, because on that day we gave away three goals without much resistance.

"The Crewe game is the only one in 24 matches that we were well and truly below par, so taking everything into account we accepted that one and have moved on."

Clough added: "There is a belief in the dressing room that we are capable of winning matches, both home and away, and that has taken time. We have chipped away at getting away from the bottom four, now we are on an exceptional run and moving up the table as a result."
