Nigel Clough believes Mark Howard's experience has been vital to the recent flurry of clean sheets.
But the Gaffer insists his current preference for Howard is no slight on George Long.
Speaking ahead of Saturday's clash with MK Dons, Clough remarked: "At a crucial time in the season, Mark (Howard) has just got that bit of experience that helps, but George (Long) still has a very bright future ahead of him and he knows how highly we regard him as a goalkeeper.
"We thought it was the right time to give George a rest, we wanted him to have a breather and take things in from a different perspective.
"They are very different goalkeepers, George is the all-action type who makes some amazing blocks, whilst Mark is a more steady stopper, who concentrates on commanding his six-yard box.
"Mark's contract is up at the end of the season, so obviously that is another reason why we needed to assess him in the first-team."
