Nigel Clough believes the business the Blades completed in the January transfer window could prove crucial come the end of the season.
The United boss oversaw four incomings last month and is confident the quartet will continue to have a positive effect on the team after impressive starts.
Clough remarked: "We were delighted to be able to sign John Brayford, Bob Harris and Stefan Scougall and all three are excellent characters and that's not forgetting Billy Paynter, who gives us an extra option in attack.
"They have improved the squad and we will need them all in the weeks ahead, they might not be able to play every game but when they do they are capable of making a difference."
Looking ahead to Wednesday's clash with leaders Brentford, the Gaffer added: "We have played well enough at home of late without the breaks and ultimately the results.
"Bramall Lane is where we see us getting the majority of our points and if we perform consistently we will give ourselves a fantastic chance of moving up the table.
"We have a few tired legs in the camp but that is understandable, hopefully everyone will be fit for Wednesday, with the squad boosted by the return of Michael Doyle."
