Nigel Clough is hoping an extended fixture schedule for United's U21s squad this season will be beneficial to the Blades development players.
Last term owing to a sparse calendar Clough often emphasised the importance of loaning out some of the younger members of his squad in order for them to enhance their development.
Now, although the Gaffer admits that some will still need to sample first-team football elsewhere, he is happier with the amount of action they will see in red and white.
Clough explained: "There is an extended programme of fixtures for the development squad this season which is pleasing to us.
"They will be playing more often and in doing so be replicating a similar schedule to the first-team.
"That lessens the need to get the youngsters out on-loan. We will still look to do it in ones and twos, but we need a good core together to be competitive on a weekly basis in our league."
An increased fixture list from previous seasons will season Chris Morgan's side play a number of games at Bramall Lane, in addition to competing at Selhurst Park, The Valley and Hillsborough amongst others.
