Cutting out errors

13 August 2014

Nigel Clough knows the Blades will have to be at their best to seal a safe passage to the second round of the Capital One Cup on Wednesday evening.

League Two outfit Mansfield Town stand between the Blades and round two and Clough has acknowledged that a tough night at the office will await his players.

But the Blades boss is optimistic his charges can build on the positives from the defeat with Bristol City, whilst cutting out costly individual errors against the Stags.

The Gaffer, looked ahead, commented: "Mansfield won't give anything away and will want to come to the Lane and put in a positive performance.

"They are big and strong, they will be organised and I am sure they will want to make life difficult for us. We played in a friendly against them last season with Derby and they will be constructive with how they utilise their physicality."

Clough continued: "What we are looking for is another performance similar to Saturday with the obvious improvements, if we do that then we have the quality to progress to the next round.

"We have to cut out the sloppy play and errors that are costing us goals at crucial times. We certainly shouldn't have lost against Bristol City."
