United's U18s rounded off their league campaign with a deserved point against Sheffield Wednesday at the Redtooth Academy on Wednesday afternoon.
Daniel Cockerline equalised late in the day to net United a share of the spoils, after Simon Hannah had put the Owls in front in the first-half. The Wednesday skipper then missed a second-half penalty, blazing high and wide from twelve yards, after an infringement by Ioan Evans.
The first-half at Shirecliffe, in front of a healthy crowd, was an even contest, with goalscoring opportunities at both ends at a premium.
Louis Reed and Joel Coustrain both had long-range efforts saved, before HANNAH fired home in the 34th minute after the Blades failed to clear a loose ball in the penalty area.
Jamie McDonagh replaced Diego De Girolamo at the break and Reed came within a whisker of restoring parity in the opening exchanges of the second period, only to see his dipping volley hit the crossbar before the rebound was cleared to safety.
The visitors responded with an attack of their own and a mistimed challenge from United skipper Evans handed the Owls the chance to double their advantage from the spot, but Hannah fired over the bar with Eastwood diving away to his right.
The contest was becoming more open by the minute and from a set-piece on the right, Cockerline drew a fine save from the Wednesday goalkeeper, who reacted quickest to deny Chesseman on the follow up.
Khan and Coustrain were replaced by Ishmail and Heh and the substitutes combined to assist United's equaliser in the 7th minute. COCKERLINE wriggled away from two or three defenders before firing the ball home into the top corner to earn United a deserved draw.
