Marlon King's debut contribution drew praise from boss David Weir.
The Gaffer, who bemoaned United's fortunes in Saturday's defeat at the hands of Preston North End, concluded his post-match thoughts by saying:
"Marlon made things happen and created opportunities, we had more chances in the first hour on Saturday than we have in most matches this season.
"He was a focal point and, given games, he will get used to the lads working off him and will become a big asset for us.
"We feel we have had nothing but bad luck this season and that comes from someone who doesn't moan and believes you usually get what you deserve, but for us that hasn't been the case as yet.
"I will take this disappointment on the chin and I hope the players do the same, because if we keep believing, our luck will change soon, of that I remain confident."
