Nigel Clough and the new coaching staff at Bramall Lane are gradually getting to know the players at their disposal.
Clough has been in charge at S2 since the middle of last week and has brought in Gary Crosby and Andy Garner to support the work that Chris Morgan and other existing coaches have been doing with the Blades players.
"Chris certainly played an active part in the preparation for the Crewe game and will continue to do so as we start to find out more about the squad," said Clough in the build up to Saturday's fixture at Shrewsbury Town.
"We are trying to observe and look at every player, we want everyone involved in training and all the lads are together as part of the squad, including the first-year professionals.
"We certainly have enough in terms of numbers but we have to narrow it down to a matchday 18 and look for that extra bit of quality where possible.
"We are experienced enough to come in and know what to expect but now it is a case of getting to know them better and that comes with spending time with the lads."
Clough adds: "The senior lads will have experienced the emotion that comes with the last couple of weeks, but to a lot of the younger lads, changing managers is a new experience and on top of that it is a balancing act to get the training schedule and the amount of rest time right.
"We will give them the necessary rest time but they will have to work extremely hard when they
are within the club, that is what we insist on."
