Lyle Taylor believes Saturday's game against Gillingham starts a crucial spell of four games in the next fortnight.
Taylor says with shirts up for grabs under new boss Nigel Clough, all the players are trying to prove themselves to the manager as United strive to climb out of the bottom four.
Speaking ahead of the weekend's clash against Peter Taylor's Gills, the striker commented: "We are taking things game-by-game at the moment and in what is a busy November, hopefully we can pick up points and clear away from the relegation zone.
"Every game in this division is tough but when we are somewhere near our best we shouldn't really fear anyone. The new Gaffer has brought a slightly different management style to the club and the lads have reacted positively.
"The boys are playing with a new found confidence and that makes a difference to any player, regardless of position.
"Everyone wants to impress the new manager and we all will be given the same opportunity to secure a starting jersey."
Lyle Taylor is 5/1 to be the first goalscorer this weekend with league sponsors Sky Bet and if you open an account and deposit before the end of November, Sheffield United will get a £10 bonus. Click here to join now.
