Matt Hill acknowledged United's season will ultimately be classed as a disappointment after play-off heartbreak at Yeovil Town on Monday.
The Club's play-off hoodoo continued at Huish Park, despite the Blades taking a slender first-leg advantage to Somerset.
Looking back on the defeat at the hands of the Glovers that consigns United to a third consecutive season in League One, the experienced campaigner, speaking on the Football League Podcast with Mark Clemmit, commented:
"We honestly thought this was going to be our year to feel the joy and happiness of winning at Wembley.
"As we took a 1-0 lead to Yeovil we were all confident we could get to the final, put right all the wrongs of previous campaigns and win promotion.
"The taste in our mouth at the final whistle at Huish Park was of immense disappointment because we haven't achieved our goals this season and that hurts."
