Hodgy impresses at the Lane again

10 May 2013

George Long was in attendance as 'An Evening with Alan Hodgkinson MBE' was a roaring success at Bramall Lane on Thursday evening.

The United's goalkeeper was intrigued to listen to the career of one of his predecessors, as a Legend of the Lane launched his new book.

'Between The Sticks' is the story of 60 years in football by Alan Hodgkinson and the book was launched at the Lane, where he played a good proportion of his 674 games for the Blades between 1954 and 1971.

'Hodgy',of course, went on to be this country's first recognised goalkeeping coach and was responsible for recommending Peter Schmeichel to Alex Ferguson and Manchester United, as he told the Blades fans who turned out in good numbers to hear his stories.

The attendees at Thursday's book launch also heard amusing tales about United's overseas tours and he confirmed that he has a match programme from every game he has played in.

'Hodgy' answered questions from Unitedites and presented everyone at the launch with a signed photo to mark the occasion, as well as praising United's teenage goalkeeper and offering him tips.

'Between The Sticks' is available in the Blades Superstore.

Alan Hodgkinson was the third former Blade to be involved in 'An Evening With ' following similar appearances by Tony Kenworthy and Carl Bradshaw. Keep a look out for more in the near future.
