United U18s slipped to a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Derby County at Shirecliffe on Saturday.
Andy Dales was on target for the Rams, scoring the only goal of the game after six minutes, to leave the Blades still looking for their first win of 2013.
United produced a spirited display after falling behind so early against the FA Youth Cup quarter-finalists, who host Chelsea at Pride Park on Friday.
In a scrappy game, the only chance of note for the hosts fell to defender Chris Salt late on, but he headed wide from a corner.
Speaking afterwards, Jamie Hoyland admits results have been disappointing of late and insists there is still plenty of work to do before the season ends.
The U18 Lead Coach said: "It was a poor game in all honest, there wasn't much between the two teams and neither team really took the game by the scruff of the neck.
"Of course we are upset that the results haven't gone our way for long periods of the season, but we will keep working hard until the end of the season.
"There are some players who are continuing to improve and enhance their development and whenever possible we are trying to integrate our U16s so they experience youth team football ahead of next season.
"Ideally we would like to end the season on a high, before attentions switch to what will be a busy summer behind the scenes."
