Mini Blades ready for final

26 July 2013

United's U13s have the first chance to collect silverware for the club in the 2013-14 season when they compete in the final of the Foyle Cup this evening (Friday).

The Foyle Cup is one of Ireland's biggest youth tournaments and the Blades have been regular visitors, at different age groups, for a number of years.

The Blades youngsters were victorious on penalties in Thursday night's semi-final against Glentoran, following a 1-1 draw.

Awaiting United in the final, which will be played at Riverside Stadium, Drumahoe (kick-off 6.30pm), will be Inishowen Youth League, who beat the Crusaders 2-0 in their semi.

For the record, the Blades topped Group E with two wins and a draw from three matches. United beat Ballymoney United 9-0, before confirming qualification for the knockout stages with a 3-1 victory over Lisburn Youth.

On Thursday morning, the Blades won their quarter-final 2-1 against St Oliver Plunkett FC, before being victorious in spectacular fashion in the evening.
