Lee Carsley says the chance to team up with former Everton team-mate David Weir at Bramall Lane is a 'fantastic opportunity' to further his coaching career.
The former Republic of Ireland international joined the Blades as Assistant Manager - Technical last week and currently touring Scotland with Weir and the first-team squad.
Speaking from United's training base north of the border, Carsley remarked:
"This is a fantastic opportunity to come to a club like Sheffield United and work closely alongside David (Weir).
"We got on fantastically well as players and we have kept in touch throughout our time as coaches.
"We are constantly sharing different ideas, but importantly we share the same philosophies about the game."
The midfielder who arrives from Coventry City, where he was caretaker manager for a short spell last season added:
"Working in League One at Coventry City last season was a new thing to me, but I worked at all levels there so I also have a good knowledge of players progressing through the system in and around the top two divisions.
"I did a lot of scouting on future opponents at Coventry so from my research last season I know what this squad is capable of.
"I remember playing against the Blades in the Premiership and when the crowd backs the team Bramall Lane is often a formidable place to visit.
"Our aim is to get the club back to where it belongs, it is going to be a long journey, but we personally I can't wait to get started."
