United's U18s played out a goalless draw with local non-league club Hallam FC at Sandygate on Tuesday evening.
Speaking after the stalemate, Coach Travis Binnion remarked:
"It was a well contested game and a very hard fought fixture.
"Hallam performed well in the first-half without looking like breaking us down, whilst at the other end we failed to create any clear cut chances, although Otis Khan and Joe Cheeseman good chances to give us the lead.
"In the second-half we moved the ball better and defended with more success with a high line.
"Unfortunately we failed to make the most of some good attacking opportunities and Hallam went closest to a winner in the last minute when they hit a post.
"Credit to Hallam, they played some good stuff and thoroughly deserved the draw.
"The most pleasing aspect of the performance was more of the boys getting 90 minutes under their belts as pre-season starts to come to an end."
The fixture at Hallam was the start of United's 'informal working relationship' with the non-leaguers, an initiative that has been put in place by Academy Manager, Nick Cox.
The same relationship will apply with Stocksbridge Park Steels, Buxton, Belper Town and AFC Emley.
