Good shape

29 July 2013

Ryan Flynn believes the Blades are in 'good shape' ahead of Friday night's League One opener against Notts County at Bramall Lane.

Flynn, who featured for United in Saturday's stalemate with York City at Bootham Crescent, thinks pre-season has surpassed expectations under new boss David Weir.

Speaking after Callum McFadzean's goal against the Minstermen, the Scotsman remarked: "The league campaign is about to get going and the lads can't wait.

"Nothing ever beats playing at your own stadium, in front of your own fans when there's a lot riding on the result, Friday can't come soon enough for the us. It's what everything has been building up to and we're ready for things to get underway."

Looking ahead to the challenge that lies in wait in League One this term, Flynn added: "Personally, I think we look in good shape. We can't take anything for granted because it will be a long, hard season.

"But we've played some good stuff in our friendlies and that goes right the way through from the older lads to the younger ones.

"That should only bode well for the future, but we know we've got to keep working really hard and make a positive start to the season."
