David Weir says he is piecing together his first-choice starting line-up for the big kick-off on Friday week.
The Gaffer commented: "I already know who my captain will be against Notts County, but that is something that will remain within the dressing room.
"As the manager I have to give the skipper my confidence because only certain characters succeed as leaders.
"I was a captain myself and I know what it takes to be successful. Now, as the manager, I have to look at things slightly differently, but I am confident in the player who will wear the armband."
Adding his thoughts on the make-up of his squad, Weir added: "I have got a very good idea of the team and the formation we will play against Notts County.
"I probably have nine players pencilled in, given what we have seen so far in pre-season, but obviously, for a number of reasons, things could change between now and then.
"What I want, though, is all the lads believing that they can force their way into the team, we can't block the path into the squad for anyone.
"From now on we will have to be more focused in our friendly fixtures because everything is quickly gearing up for the start of the season."
