Danny Wilson is tipping the Blades to regain top form in the weeks ahead, despite admitting he is frustrated with the lack of consistency of late.
United have won just once in 2013, the cup success at Oxford, but Wilson says the fight must go on, despite seeing injuries deprive him of several first-team regulars since the turn of the New Year.
Speaking ahead of Saturday's FA Cup fourth round tie at Reading, the Gaffer commented: "We have had games in recent weeks that we should have won and others that we perhaps didn't deserve to win.
"That inconsistency and dropped points is something that has plagued us for much of the season, even during our unbeaten start at the beginning of the campaign.
"Until we win a run of games consistently we are only going to be in the chasing pack. We want to be in the top two, make no mistake about it, that is our priority and main focus, but injuries have taken their affect.
"I keep saying our fortunes will improve when we get bodies back available, especially the more experienced lads.
"We have lost key players at vital times - when anyone loses their better players results often dip and unfortunately we have been no different.
"We can't hide from that fact, but we must battle on because there are some important games on the horizon, starting at the weekend.
"We mustn't feel sorry for ourselves as we perhaps have done because if we put in good performances then we have a good chance in most games at our level."
