United's U18s returned to league action on Saturday and were unfortunate to slip to a narrow defeat to Leeds United at Shirecliffe.
The visitors opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 14th minute, after Jordan Hodder had harshly been adjudged to have handled the ball in the box.
United pressed for an equaliser for much of the contest, but a slip in midfield saw Leeds nick possession in the 71st minute and from the resulting counter-attack they doubled their advantage.
The Blades hit back in injury time when Jahmal Smith got on the scoresheet, but there wasn't enough time for the hosts to find a leveller.
Following the narrow defeat, U18s Lead Coach Jamie Hoyland commented: "It was a very good game and a very encouraging performance from the lads against a team at the top of the league, who are absolutely flying at the moment.
"We introduced a few new elements to the lads and I am delighted with how they took them on board.
"It is about developing these lads and although we hope we can win matches along the way I am pleased with how we responded to the hard work we have done in training in recent weeks.
"What impressed the staff the most was the fact we stuck to our task and were in the game throughout, in my opinion I think we deserved something from the fixture."
